Gordon Park (4031)
5 km from Brisbane, Gordon Park (4031) has the feel of a small village because of its lack of major shopping centres of businesses. It is a leafy suburb with young professional affluent families who have been rapidly moving into the suburb and extensively renovating its characteristic high set timber Queenslander homes.
Gordon Park, named after General Gordon of the siege of Khartoum in late 1800s, was originally subdivided and sold as small residential blocks in1886. In 1926, Gordon Park was home to a Baptist tent mission which was then relocated to a manse in 1953 , a hall in 1961 and a new church in 1977. Trams operated in the area until 1969.
In 2011 about 4000 people lived in Gordon Park, their average age being 33 years. Gordon Park is a multicultural suburb, with 82% being Anglo-Australian, and a notable minority from Italy and India with Italian spoken as a language second to English at home.
