Arana Hills (4054)
Situated in Brisbane’s Northern Suburbs Arana Hills is a leafy suburb about 12 km north west of the CBD. First subdivided in 1937, it began as an acreage housing estate with some farm and parkland. It was well known for its friendly welcoming culture due to its early residents forming a progress association who advocated to address the needs of the rapidly developing community for postal services, road maintenance etc. New families to the community were welcomed personally and a locally produced newspaper The Advisor was distributed monthly.
Now Arana Hills is primarily a residential suburb, with about 20% parkland. Housing styles are a mix of 1960s chamferboard and modern brick built upon the steep hills,with sweeping city views. More recently housing has been established in the northern part of the suburb adjacent to land previously designated as a timber reserve, now Bunyaville State Forestry Park. It is still common to see horse riders, and wildlife such as the occasional koala perched in the many trees in the district.
Arana Hills is served by several smaller neighbourhood shopping villages as well as three larger complexes. It contains three early childhood facilities, one primary school, as well as high schools situated in closely adjoining suburbs. Arana Hills has its own fire station, library, medical centre and is well serviced by public buses and a train station. The main post office is located together with all four major banks. Arana Hills also has many community run clubs and associations.
