Mount Ommaney (4074)

Located 13 km to Brisbane's south-west on a hill beside the Brisbane River, Mount Ommaney (4074) was named after the nephew of Moreton Bay's Crown Lands Commissioner, John Ommaney who died in 1856 after a horse riding accident in the area. In 1959 Mt Ommaney was developed along with other Centenary suburbs. Despite this residential development, Mt Ommaney continues to include large tracts of protected forest alongside large prestigious, executive homes on sub-acreage blocks. Those on the hill are particularly expensive because of their sweeping views of the city. Mt Ommaney also has a shopping centre, a hotel and an extensive golf course.

In 2011, 2300 people lived in Mt Ommaney, their average age is 45 years. Residents tend to be older, affluent executives or business people. Although primarily Anglo-Australian, a minority were also from South Africa, Vietnam, and Taiwan, with were Mandarin, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Arabic, and Tamil spoken alongside English at home.
