Margate (4019)
About 25 km to the north of Brisbane and on the Redcliffe peninsula, Margate (4019) has become more popular recently because of its seaside location and the various refurbishments including an extensive boardwalk with cafes and restaurants along Suttons Beach and a modern shopping precinct with major retailers adjoining a village hosting commercial and retail businesses.
Although there is significant development activity in the form of renovations and high-density living, these have been undertaken sensitively in keeping with the previous traditional style and building heights have been limited to six storeys. Margate’s primary school was opened in 1909 and is now a heritage building. As of 2011, 7,000 people were resident, their average age is 42 years. Most were born in Australia, England or New Zealand and English was primarily spoken at home.
