Brick Veneer construction is the term given to a timber or metal framed construction with a non load bearing outer brick skin to provide weather protection and a decrative finish.

The bricks used in brick veneer are typically lower fired and weaker than structural bricks. A brick facade is anchored to the timber frame of the house with metal brick ties.

The brick veneer does not support the roof loads as all structural loads are supported by the timber or steel frame. Also there is a space between the timber frame and the brick walls to allow for ventilation and prevent water from damaging the frame and the internal linings.
