From December 20, 2013 the Department of Housing and Public Works revised the Building Regulation 2006 (BR) and schedule 7 of the Sustainable Planning Regulation 2009 to give a more consistent approach to buildings in flood hazard areas. You can find more information and factsheets on the Department’s website: www.hpw.qld.gov.au or read the Building and Other Legislation Amendment Regulation (no.4) 2013.
The alert from the government stated: “The amendment regulation adopts a revised version of the Queensland Development Code (QDC) Mandatory Part 3.5—Construction of buildings in flood hazard areas (draft MP 3.5). Changes to the MP 3.5 include adopting parts of the final national flood standard, simplifying the relationship between the BR and MP 3.5, and reflecting the terminology used in the new State Planning Policy 2013 that commenced on 2 December 2013″.
If your house is in a Flood Hazard area of Brisbane, Ipswich or the Gold Coast or other flood areas of Queelsand, we recommend you keep informed of the building recommendations the government is making.
