Tanah Merah (4128)
Located 29 km south of Brisbane, bordered by Slacks Creek and the Pacific Motorway, and divided by the Logan Motorway, Tanah Merah (4128) is derived from the word for red soil in Malay and the name can also be found for towns in Malaysia and Singapore. Originally, the land was owned by the Murray family who settled in the area in the 1870s for timber getting, milling and timber distribution but later sold their land to developers. The area is still important for a species of native tree of which only a limited number are in existence. Centrally, Tanah Merah maintains a partially vegetated ridge which provides a protected habitat for native wildlife. Tanah Merah also has a park and boat ramp on the river, several sporting fields, and a caravan park.
In 2011, 4600 people lived in Tanah Merah, their average age being 33 years. Most residents were Anglo-Australian with a minority from South Africa. Almost all spoke English exclusively at home, with a minority of Arabic.
