Deagon (4017)
Located on the Northside, 17 km north of the Brisbane CBD, Deagon (4017) derived its name from William Deagon, Sandgate’s Mayor from 1882 to 1884 and owner of the Sandgate Hotel, a resting point for Cobb & Co. A post office was established in 1947. A racing training course continues to this day, despite horse racing being discontinued in 1941. Deagon also hosts a Taoist temple with adjoining Chinese retirement village.
Dragon is flat country bounded by Cabbage Tree Creek, and although largely residential, it also has a large area of Wetlands and Tea Tree marshland which are a habitat for a large range of native fauna and flora.
Decagon is well serviced by rail, bus, major arterial roads and a motorway all linking dragon to Brisbane, surrounding suburbs and the Sunshine Coast. Deagon is also home to a lot of fast food outlets, fresh food markets, fitness gyms and community shopping centres. However, it only has one school built around a large man-made lake, opened in 1961 and extended in the 1980s and early 2000s. This school has produced several celebrity Australians.
In 2011, 3400 people lived in Deagon, their average age is 40 years. Most were Anglo-Australian, speaking English only at home.
