Burpengary (4505)
On the Northside, 35km from the Brisbane CBD, Burpengary (4505) is one of southeast Queensland’s fastest growing areas. Originally established as a truck stop because of its position on the Bruce Highway, the major arterial road linking Brisbane to the north coast, in the past its population was predominantly working class.
However, with the expansion of the Brisbane metropolitan area coupled with affordable land in Burpengary and its easy and regular road and rail access to Brisbane, the population is not only rapidly growing but also changing to include more professionals. This economic growth has fuelled development of local services including shopping, 3 primary schools and 2 high schools. Burpengary also has an aquatic centre with tennis, gymnasium facilities and children’s play areas.
In 2011 Burpengary’s population was about 13,000 with an average age of 36 years. Some 90% were Anglo-Australian and spoke only English at home.
