Banyo (4014)
Situated 13 km north of Brisbane and with easy access to the Gateway Motorway, Banyo (4014) is a mix of residential and industrial because of its proximity to the Motorway, Airport and Port of Brisbane. It is fast becoming a commercial hub with a large service centre and more industrial estates under construction. Banyo has a rich history as evidenced by remaining indigenous Bora Rings, as well as a strong environmental heritage because it borders the extensive Boondall Wetlands.
Recently, a campus of the Australian Catholic University has been established in Banyo giving the suburb a further population boost. Accordingly, a number new housing estates are being built both in Banyo and neighbouring suburbs. The 100 year old railway station has been upgraded and regular trains provide access to Brisbane and northern suburbs. Despite its name, the Virginia Golf Course & Club is in fact located in Banyo.
In 2011, 5500 people lived in Banyo, their average age being 36 years and at least 80% were born in Australia, New Zealand or England, with a minority from India, Philippines or China such that apart from English, Punjabi and Mandarin were also spoken at home.
