Algester (4115)
Named after Alcester, an English village, Algester (4115) is 18 km from the CBD on the Southside of Brisbane. Algester has also previously been known as Ridgewood Heights in the 1970s, but from 1972 it assumed its current name. As part of a nature reserve, Algester was known for its original bushland and wildlife. However, it began to be developed in the late 1970s and more recently, has undergone a revival of further intensive development.
According to the 2011 census, Algester is home to some 8200, with an average age of 34 years. At least 51% were born overseas particularly in New Zealand, China and England (14%), at least 6% speaking a dialect of Chinese at home.
