Strathpine (4500)

Situated 22 km from the CBD on Brisbane’s Northside, Strathpine (4500) is a hub for local government administration. Its name is originally Scottish and it was settled in the early 1860s due to the gold rush. Later in the 1890s this was replaced by sugar cane farming with mills and distilleries also being established.

The population was boosted in the 1940s with the establishment of an army base and this population growth continued, at a slower pace with urban pressure from Brisbane and as farms were redeveloped into commercial and residential estate so that its major shopping centre was opened in 1983. Strathpine is undergoing renewal and its main road has become a major arterial connection into Brisbane it also has frequent bus and rail services to Brisbane and surrounding suburbs. As or 2011, 9,300 people were resident, their average age is 35 years.

Residents are a mixed group being born in Australia, New Zealand and England but also from The Philippines and the Pacific Islands such that Samoan and Tagalog are spoken as well as English at home.
