"Thorough explanations...friendly, helpful"
Library
The ABIS library is a collection of useful reference material relating to buildings and their problems as well as timber pests such as termites.
The library is a combination of material written by ABIS as a result of our own research and practical experience together with useful information gleaned from other authoritative sources.
Pier & Beam
Piers are the most common and cost effective type of floor support and can be:
- brick piers
- timber stumps on galvanised "shoes"
- steel posts that are bolted in each corner onto the pad footing with a "Dynabolt"
- precast reinforced concrete
- core filled concrete block work
The bearers rest on top of the piers and usually run the direction of the longest wall. Joists are then laid in the opposite direction. Floor boards or sheet flooring is then laid on top of the joists.
